Summary

The glorious center of spirituality and science in the western lands was the Volyn Theological Seminary, which since its founding in 1796 has educated and graduated a large number of students, including prominent hierarchs of the Church of Christ, devotees of piety, representatives of theology. The year 2021 in the history of the Volyn Orthodox Theological Academy (the successor of the ancient Volyn Theological Seminary) is full of memorable dates, because we celebrate a triple anniversary: the 225th anniversary of the Volyn Theological Seminary (1796), the 30th anniversary of the revival of the Volyn Theological Seminary (1991 ) and the 10th anniversary of granting the status of the Academy to the Volyn Theological Seminary (2011). For a long time in different periods of the seminary’s existence, an important and integral part of its functioning was scientific activity. Improvement of the educational process, intensification of scientific life, development of the infrastructure of theological school led to the reorganization of the Volyn Theological Seminary into the Volyn Orthodox Theological Academy. The status of the Academy has significantly intensified the teaching staff and students to persistent research work with clear objectives: to preserve the traditions of spiritual education, to increase the experience and to integrate into the world educational and scientific space. During the 10th years, many international scientific theological conferences, round tables discussions and other scientific events were held, cooperation was established with higher education institutions and scientific institutions not only in Ukraine but also in Greece, Turkey, Germany, Poland, USA, Canada and other countries. An important part of the development was the publishing activity and the founding in 2013 of its own scientific theological-historical journal “Volyn Annunciation”. This article, based on a comprehensive analysis of sources, establishes a chronology of the most important events in the scientific life of the Volyn Orthodox Theological Academy, which have left their mark on the history of higher spiritual education. For 10 years of academic status Volyn Orthodox Theological Academy has significant achievements in scientific activity, a high level of which is an integral part and guarantee of quality training of highly educated pastors of the Church of Christ, and the research work of the teaching stuffs and students has made a significant contribution to the development of theological education in Ukraine.
