Summary

Each of the Christian denominations in its own way responds to the challenges of the present, and the success of such responses depends on the confessional-historical experience, and on the specifics of practical activity in a particular country. In Orthodoxy during the XX century the theme of interaction between man and the environment touched the leaders of various Orthodox churches. This article explores the contribution to the protection of the environment of the first hierarch of the Constantinople Church, Bartholomew I, the patriarch who has been dealing with environmental problems for about 30 years.
