A unity that concerns both theology and ecclesiastical practice. It is an approach that is primarily theological and ecclesiastical not moralistic. In particular, in the present work, we will attempt to approach, through the study of the relevant official documents of the Holy Synod, first of all, how the Orthodox Church defines itself in relation to the issue of Christian unity, defining necessary orthodox premises and within ecclesiastical patristic frameworks. The specific objectives of this paper are to develop the main cutting-edge areas in which practical understanding and cooperation between Christian Churches and Denominations is currently focused. Also to highlight the theological conviction of the Orthodox Church, which stems from its self-consciousness, that it is the bearer and which, by bearing witness to the faith and tradition of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, is central to the cause of Christian unity. It is known to all that the 20th century, as far as the theological quests and the Church they serve are concerned, is characterized by an intense ecumenical reflection, by a vigorous search for ecclesiastical identity. An identity that does not refer, i.e. to what separates and differentiates us, into individual or collective characteristics of national, cultural or religious-confessional &#8220;idiosyncrasy&#8221;, but to what unites us in the transcendence of faith and within the Body of Christ, into those particular characteristics that are relativized to the perspective of this faith and salvation. In the context of this search, Orthodoxy is called upon to highlight its own identity as a continuation of the &#8220;One Holy Apostolic and Catholic Church&#8221;, of the Church of the &#8220;all- praised Apostles, the God-bearing Fathers, the holy and great Ecumenical Councils&#8221;, and as a Church that preserves the &#8220;revealed truth&#8221; and the patristic and synodic teaching. It is a truth that liberates and therefore salvages, but also constitutes the &#8220;one faith&#8221; that is the foundation of life. The purpose of this article is to highlight the Orthodox approach to the issue of cooperation between Christian Churches and denominations, highlighting the position of the Orthodox Church in the wider context of the search for Christian unity. A unity that concerns both theology and ecclesiastical practice. It is an approach that is primarily theological and ecclesiastical not moralistic. In particular, in the present work, we will attempt to approach, through the study of the relevant official documents of the Holy Synod, first of all, how the Orthodox Church defines itself in relation to the issue of Christian unity, defining necessary orthodox premises and within ecclesiastical patristic frameworks. The specific objectives of this paper are to develop the main cutting-edge areas in which practical understanding and cooperation between Christian Churches and Denominations is currently focused. Also to highlight the theological conviction of the Orthodox Church, which stems from its self-consciousness, that it is the bearer and which, by bearing witness to the faith and tradition of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, is central to the cause of Christian unity. It is known to all that the 20th century, as far as the theological quests and the Church they serve are concerned, is characterized by an intense ecumenical reflection, by a vigorous search for ecclesiastical identity. An identity that does not refer, i.e. to what separates and differentiates us, into individual or collective characteristics of national, cultural or religious-confessional &#8220;idiosyncrasy&#8221;, but to what unites us in the transcendence of faith and within the Body of Christ, into those particular characteristics that are relativized to the perspective of this faith and salvation. In the context of this search, Orthodoxy is called upon to highlight its own identity as a continuation of the &#8220;One Holy Apostolic and Catholic Church&#8221;, of the Church of the &#8220;all- praised Apostles, the God-bearing Fathers, the holy and great Ecumenical Councils&#8221;, and as a Church that preserves the &#8220;revealed truth&#8221; and the patristic and synodic teaching. It is a truth that liberates and therefore salvages, but also constitutes the &#8220;one faith&#8221; that is the foundation of life. But it is also a doctrine whose fundamental Synodic conscience governs, directs and illuminates all its institutional expressions, functions and its entire life, with reference and center always to the most holy sacrament of the Eucharist and its entire sacramental life, since, according to St. Nicholas of Cavasila, &#8221; that it is the Church who is the actual celebrant of the mystery\u201d.
